In honor of reading is fun week, I thought this would be a great opportunity to talk about reading, it’s importance, as well as, mention what I’ve been reading and what the girls have been reading, too.
My girls are already avid readers! I guess, how could they not be? They’ve been read to since they were babies. I used to pick a book for my oldest and read to her while I nursed. My youngest nestled in while I read to her older sister. Now, the oldest reads to us!
My oldest is a 1st grader and really enjoys reading, which her teacher has told me that she has her read to the class sometimes. (Sorry, Mommy just had to brag a little.) I’m very proud of her. Her favorite stories include The Silly Book” by Stu Hample and the Magic Tree House Mystery” books. I can’t wait for her to start reading my old favorites like Ralph Mouse“, Little House on the Prairie and, especially, the Ramona books like Ramona the Brave.
The little one is only 2, but she thinks she can read! If you have or have had a 2 year old, aren’t they cute at that age when they sit down with a book and some sort of gibberish comes out as they “read” to themselves or their dolls? Every few words can be made out while she’s “reading.” She loves the Silly Book, too, and her alphabet books. Both girls love No David!” by David Shannon.
I think one of the most important things about reading is the language development of the child. My husband and I have noticed that our little one is taking off with words and sentences. It seems more so than the older one did at that age. We’ve also noticed that our older child speaks very well, too, for her age and is not afraid to sound out a word she doesn’t know.
I’m very glad to see my girls love books. Can it be in their DNA? My husband could care less about taking the time to read, but I don’t know about you? I have about 6 books going right now. I just take the time to read even a little bit. I don’t get a lot read every day, but even a little is a nice escape.
I’ve been reading a lot about financial investing and spiritual growth. I used to think that reading about money was so boring, but I’ve found a few people that have turned it around for me. We’ll cover more of their advice in later blogs. Currently, I’m reading Excuses Begone! by Dr. Wayne Dyer, The Snowball” which is about Warren Buffet and Praising Girls Well“. There are a few others, too, not worth mentioning yet because I’m too new into them. I just finished Fearless” by Max Lucado. I do read fiction books, too, in case you’re wondering. I’m not always that boring. I’ll update my latest reading material on the site as we go on, so watch out for that.
Anyway, I hope that you are maybe a little inspired to dust off a book, snuggle up with the kids and enjoy a good read. Then, when they go to bed, find one of your own that let’s you disappear from reality for awhile. If you find a great one, let me know! I’m always looking for a good read.
Happy reading!
