Home Organizing – Part 4

I thought the living room was done, but then I went to the closet right there by the front door to find something and I was bombarded with stuff and more disarray. I don’t know whether to tackle this area before or after I working on the laundry/pantry/storage area in the basement. I suspect that will be about a 2 week project by the time I get it done.

I did re-organize the pantry in my kitchen this week while waiting for one of my many canning projects to get done. It looks much better! The only thing I really need to do now is go through all of the recipes I’ve ripped and cut out and put them into a binder or throw them away.

This last week, I’ve been watching an awful lot of Designed to Sell on HGTV. Not that we’re thinking of selling our home, but it’s been giving me some good ideas and it’s the only interesting thing on while I was exercising. Anyway, it’s gotten me to thinking about some possible things to do in my laundry area, like paint.

The laundry room is in the basement and it is partially finished. I don’t want to finish it completely, mostly because of the cost, which I can’t spend right now and I want to make sure we still have access to pipes and things you just never know whether or not you’ll need acces to, right? Anyway, I think some paint will brighten it up in there and make it not so dismal of a place.

I informed my husband that almost everything was coming out of there next week so I could start painting. I think he rolled his eyes, but I couldn’t tell, he was facing away from me. Then, maybe we can re-organize in a way that will keep it that way. That is our biggest problem! I organize the room every 6 months or so and it goes right back to being a nightmare. I’ve gotten a few ideas from organizational books I’ve found at the library, but if any of you have any ideas, please share! I’ve got a book shelf, metal shelves, doored pantry and 3 cupboards above the washer and dryer. However, if anyone has any thoughts….

Of course, the biggest part of cleaning this area will be the purging. Right now, it is home to some of the things we want to put on eBay or Craigslist and I know there will be more added to this list. So, now that I’m done canning for awhile, this is my next big project. I’ll keep you posted and wish me luck!
